Spinal decompression is a gentle, non-invasive treatment designed to relieve pressure on the spine and surrounding nerves.
Your spine is made up of a series of vertebrae that enable your body to bend, twist, and move freely. Between each vertebra is a soft, rubbery disc that cushions the bones and prevents friction during movement. Over time, these discs can become worn, brittle, or damaged—leading to conditions like disc herniation or rupture, which may compress nearby nerves and cause significant pain.
During your appointment, our team will carefully stretch the spine to relieve this pressure. This process helps reposition the discs, promote natural healing, and reduce pain caused by bulging or herniated discs.
Our goal is to restore comfort, mobility, and improve your overall spinal health—without the need for surgery.
Spinal Decompression Process
During spinal decompression therapy at OWCP Injury Center of New Jersey, you’ll remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a specialized motorized table. A secure harness is placed around your hips and attached to the lower section of the table near your feet.
While the upper portion of the table stays in place, the lower half gently moves back and forth, applying controlled traction and release. This movement helps stretch the spine and relieve pressure on the affected discs and nerves—without causing pain. Most patients describe the sensation as a gentle, soothing stretch.
Treatment sessions typically last between 30 and 45 minutes and are scheduled over several weeks, usually spanning 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your specific condition and progress.
